Lot 955: John R. Edwards (Jedd), A Pair of Limited Edition Colour Prints, His First Capture and Time Gentlemen Please!
A pair of limited edition colour prints, produced as offset lithographs or giclées, by the British artist John R. Edwards, who worked under the pseudonym Jedd. The prints depict humorous scenes involving mid-20th-century British police officers. The first, titled His First Capture, shows a young constable presenting a civilian with a bottle to other officers in a Charge Room setting. The second, titled Time Gentlemen Please!, portrays several officers socialising within a pub interior. Both works are signed in the plate JEDD to the lower right of the image and hand-signed in pencil to the lower right margin John R. Edwards – Jedd. The print His First Capture is hand-numbered 92/850 in pencil to the lower left margin. Both prints feature a small printed copyright notice © John R. Edwards to the lower right. The works are housed in disparate frames: one in a stained wood frame with a gilt-effect inner slip, and the other in a modern silver-toned metal frame.
