Lot 399: Antique Japanese Imari Porcelain Scalloped Plate
A Japanese porcelain plate of lobed form with a scalloped rim, decorated in the traditional Imari palette of underglaze cobalt blue and overglaze iron-red enamels with gilded highlights. The central circular medallion contains a floral arrangement, possibly a stylised flower basket (hanakago). This is surrounded by a wide border divided into radiating panels featuring alternating floral sprays and geometric diaper patterns. The piece is characteristic of 19th-century production from the Arita region. No maker’s marks are visible as images of the underside were not provided.
Diameter: approximately 20 – 22 cm.
Condition report:
The plate is in good overall condition. There are no visible chips, cracks, or restorations. Minor, age-appropriate rubbing and wear are present on the overglaze iron-red enamels and gilt decoration.
