Lot 409: A Collection of Approximately 25 Decorative and Souvenir Collector Plates and a Larger Shaped Platter
A collection of approximately 25 decorative and souvenir collector plates, together with one larger shaped platter. The items are manufactured from a mixture of porcelain, bone china, and earthenware. The lot features predominantly circular display plates of various sizes, alongside a large pale blue platter with a scalloped, gilt-edged rim and central floral sprays. Decoration is primarily achieved through transfer-printed designs, many featuring gilt-finished rims. Key subjects within the collection include nature and wildlife, such as a bald eagle over a lake signed Van Straalen, and plates depicting robins, pheasants, and squirrels. Landscape and architectural designs include scenes of Windsor Castle, Dutch windmills, and a village scene with a horse-drawn carriage signed Christian Lückel. Souvenir and commemorative examples include a colourful Mallorca plate, a Scottish-themed plate featuring Balmoral and Edinburgh castles, and a sepia-toned plate commemorating the Royal Canadian Mounted Police with provincial coats of arms. A nursery rhyme plate featuring Humpty Dumpty and the associated verse is also included. Artist signatures for Van Straalen and Christian Lückel are visible on their respective pieces.
