Lot 417: A Group of Wood and Sons Yuan Pattern and Assorted Blue and White Transfer Printed Ceramic Jugs
A group of six blue and white transfer printed ceramic jugs. The collection includes four faceted jugs of octagonal form in the Yuan pattern by Wood and Sons, featuring transfer printed exotic birds, likely peacocks or cranes, within a landscape of stylised flowers and foliage with geometric lattice borders. Also included is a bulbous jug with a narrow neck, decorated with a repeating blue geometric lattice pattern and two bands of gilt highlights. The final item is a large jug of fluted form with a wide spout, featuring a large rose motif. The undersides of the Yuan pattern jugs are marked with the pattern name, the maker Wood and Sons, England, and a registration number appearing as RD NO 656338. A small handwritten mark 12 in green is also present on at least one base.
Condition report:
The items are in good overall condition. No major chips, cracks, or signs of restoration are visible. The earthenware displays light surface crazing and minor shelf wear to the bases consistent with age.
