Lot 498: An Assortment of Decorative Brassware Including a Chinoiserie Style Tray and Horse Brasses
An assortment of early to mid-20th-century decorative brassware, comprising a tray, horse brasses, and a table accessory. The circular brass tray features hand-chased and engraved decoration, with a central field depicting a floral spray encircled by a border of repeating leaf motifs and four stylised circular geometric cartouches in the Chinoiserie style. The group includes several cast brass horse brasses of varying designs, including one of horseshoe form with a central horse head; one inscribed TALLY-HO beneath a hunting scene of a mounted figure and hounds; one depicting a figure with a horn; and one with a radiating sunburst motif. Also present is a long-handled brass tool, identified as a crumb scoop or silent butler, featuring a fan-shaped head with a fluted hinged lid operated by a thumb-lever. The cylindrical handle terminates in a spherical ball finial. The lot also includes a small metal strip with a serrated edge. One horse brass is cast with the inscription TALLY-HO. Modern labels are present, including a lot sticker from HCP Auctions South West and a smaller sticker on the handle with the handwritten number 1270.
