Lot 508: Late Victorian Architectural Carved Oak Mantel Clock with Embossed Gilt Dial
An antique mantel clock in the architectural style, featuring a carved oak case with a dark finish. The design incorporates turned wooden spindles, foliate and scrollwork carvings, and a tiered, stepped base. The circular dial is constructed from gold-toned embossed metal, possibly brass or gilded tin, with stylized Arabic numerals set within raised circular cartouches. The dial features two winding holes and ornate dark metal hands. This clock is fitted with a mechanical twin-train movement, likely designed for an hour and half-hour strike on a bell or gong. The item is accompanied by a key and pendulum as noted on an attached handwritten label. The piece bears an auction tag from HCP Auctions South West identifying it as Lot 508 and a handwritten note with the reference 9653. While visually similar to designs by American manufacturers such as Ingraham or E. N. Welch, no maker marks are visible on the exterior.
