Lot 530: An Antique Style Brass Counterbalance Desk Lamp with Opaque White Glass Shade
An adjustable brass desk lamp designed in the style of an inverted gas student lamp. The construction features a single horizontal arm balanced by a cylindrical brass weight, mounted upon a circular weighted base with a swivel adjustment mechanism. The arm supports a brass gallery holding an opaque white glass shade of stepped, domed form. The lamp has been updated with modern white twin-core flex and a standard UK three-pin plug. A rectangular paper inventory label marked with the handwritten number 530 is present on the counterbalance weight. No maker marks are visible on the base or body.
Condition report:
The brass body shows a natural aged patina with areas of tarnish and minor surface wear throughout consistent with age and use. The white glass shade appears to be in good order without prominent chips or cracks. The lamp has been rewired but is sold as untested and must be checked by a qualified electrician before being put into service.
