Lot 546: Victorian Mahogany Cased Banjo Barometer with Integral Thermometer
A Victorian banjo style wheel barometer featuring a carved mahogany case. The case is designed with a scrolled pediment and foliate carvings to the sides of the central dial housing. The main circular dial is silvered and engraved with weather predictions including Stormy, Rain, Change, Fair, Set Fair, and Very Dry, alongside a barometric scale measured in inches. The dial is decorated with a central engraved floral motif and is fitted with a primary steel indicator hand and a brass setting hand. The long neck of the case contains an integral mercury thermometer with a corresponding silvered scale. A small circular bone coloured setting knob is positioned above the main dial. Small engraved characters are present at the base of the silvered dial but are not clearly legible for definitive attribution.
