Lot 591: A Set of Five Heavy Thick-stemmed Ruby-to-Clear Cased Cut Lead Crystal Wine Glasses
This lot consists of a set of five ruby-to-clear cased lead crystal glasses, suitable for use as hock or wine glasses. Each glass is constructed with a bowl of deep ruby red glass cased over a clear crystal core. The lower portion of each bowl features a hand-cut diamond lattice or criss-cross pattern that reveals the clear glass underneath. The bowls are supported by clear, tapering faceted stems which terminate in plain, circular feet. No permanent maker’s marks, acid-etched stamps, or signatures are visible on the bases or bodies of the glasses. One glass bears a white rectangular paper label for HP Auctions South West with the lot number 591. The glasses are produced in the Bohemian or Continental style typical of mid-20th-century European glass manufacture.
