Lot 713: An early 20th-century twin-handled ceramic Grimwades Winton jardiniere decorated with lilacs and roses
A large early 20th-century earthenware twin-handled jardiniere or footed bowl, featuring decoration in a style resembling the floral patterns produced by Staffordshire potteries such as Grimwades Winton. The vessel is adorned with a wide central horizontal band of polychrome floral transfers depicting lilacs and pink roses against a black ground, bordered by gilt bands. The remainder of the exterior surface is finished in a distinctive green and white stippled pebble ground. The piece is of circular form with a flared, moulded rim and is flanked by two ornate scrolled handles with gilded accents, all supported on a low pedestal foot. No factory marks or backstamps are visible. An adhesive label is present to the body with the handwritten text 9654 reserve £40.
