Lot 747: A Late 19th or Early 20th Century Provincial Painted Country Side Chair
A provincial country side chair dating from the late 19th or early 20th century, constructed from hardwood. The backrest features a curved top rail positioned above a central horizontal splat, which is supported by two small turned spindles. The chair is designed with a solid, shaped wooden seat. It stands on turned front legs and square-section rear legs. Traditional mortise and tenon joinery is visible in the construction of the backrest. The entire piece is finished in multiple layers of paint, with a pale green top coat that is now heavily distressed. A contemporary auction house identification sticker marked Lot 747 is attached to the top rail.
