Lot 931: Arts and Crafts Oak Eight-Shelf Open Bookcase
This Arts and Crafts period open bookcase is constructed from solid oak and features an eight-shelf configuration. The unit is designed with a knock-down or takedown mechanism, typical of the movement’s focus on functional, visible joinery. The side uprights are topped with simple pointed finials and are pierced to accommodate tusk tenons from the shelves, which are secured on the exterior with vertical wooden wedges. The piece displays the characteristic utilitarian form and construction of early 20th-century British craft furniture. No original maker’s marks or stamps are visible; however, modern inventory stickers are present, including a white label numbered 1088 on the side upright and a yellow multi-digit label at the base.
