Buyer's Premium:

This lot features two vintage two-gallon pressed steel petrol cans, common to early 20th-century British motoring. The first can is identified by embossed lettering on the top surface that reads PRATT’S PETROL SPIRIT and HIGHLY INFLAMMABLE. It displays a layered paint finish with red paint flaking away to reveal an underlying green coat. The side of this can bears the embossed figures 5 1. It is currently missing its original screw cap. The second can is of matching standard size and construction, retaining a knurled brass screw cap. Due to heavy surface corrosion and oxidation, no embossed maker’s branding is clearly legible on this example. Remnants of a red painted finish are visible on its body. A paper lot tag numbered 1032 is attached to the handle of this can.

Approximate height: 28 cm.
