This lot consists of two vintage two-gallon fuel cans of steel and tin-plate construction, both retaining their original brass screw caps. The first can is finished in dark green paint with the text LISTER D stencilled or hand-painted in white on the front face, a branding associated with the R.A. Lister and Company Ltd. stationary engines. The top surface of this can is embossed with PETROL and 2 GALLONS. The second can is finished in bright green with yellow painted lettering for NATIONAL BENZOLE MIXTURE. It features an embossed oval panel on the shoulder reading NATIONAL BENZOLE CO LTD BUCKINGHAM GATE LONDON S.W.1. Additional embossed text under the handle reads MOTOR SPIRIT and HIGHLY INFLAMMABLE, while the top is embossed with 2 GALLONS and features a painted price mark of 3/-. Both cans exhibit traditional rectangular forms with integrated carrying handles.
