Buyer's Premium:

An early 20th-century foot-powered metalworking lathe manufactured by Drummond Brothers Limited of Guildford, Surrey. This example is a classic round-bed model, distinguished by its solid cylindrical main bed supported by a heavy cast iron frame. The machine features a headstock with stepped cone pulleys designed for a flat-belt drive, an integrated screw-cutting gear train, and a cross-slide tool rest currently fitted with a three-jaw chuck. The lower section includes a complete treadle assembly with a large, weighted flywheel and a ribbed foot pedal. The lathe was originally retailed by the London tool merchants Buck & Ryan. The main casting features a rectangular maker’s plate inscribed: MADE BY DRUMMOND BROTHERS LIMITED – PATENTEES – RYES HILL, nr GUILDFORD SURREY *. A secondary circular retailer’s plaque is located nearby, reading: BUCK & RYAN EUSTON RD EDGWARE RD LONDON NW. Construction materials primarily consist of cast iron with steel and brass components.
