Lot 312: A cast stone garden ornament of a sleeping cherub nestled in wings
A cast reconstituted stone wall plaque or shallow planter, designed in the Art Nouveau manner. The piece features a high-relief profile of a woman’s face with a serene expression, framed by flowing tresses of hair embellished with several floral blossoms. The material is a sandy-beige composite with a textured, porous finish characteristic of cast garden statuary. The reverse of the ornament is hollowed out, allowing it to be hung or used for small plantings. While the form is consistent with the Demeter model from the Abbott Collection, no manufacturer marks or signatures are visible. A white paper auction sticker is affixed to the centre of the face.
