Lot 607: David Winter Cottages The Gatehouse Architectural Miniature with Original Box
A decorative wall hook rack featuring a trio of silhouetted elephants mounted to a horizontal support. The rack is constructed from hand-cut sheet metal and is decorated in a style characteristic of Rajasthani folk art. Each elephant is finished in a different base colour: dark blue, mint green, and dark green. They are further detailed with pierced lattice-work saddles in red and embellished throughout with hand-painted polychrome floral and geometric motifs in yellow, white, and red. The horizontal support bar is finished in a bright orange enamel with coordinating hand-painted floral patterns. The assembly includes four integrated hooks and features a mounting aperture at each end for wall attachment. The reverse is finished in a plain, un-decorated base coat. This type of metalwork was common as an export item from India during the late 20th century. No maker’s marks or stamps are present.
