Lot 648: Late 19th or Early 20th Century Brass and Cobalt Blue Ceramic Oil Lamp Converted to Electric
This collection comprises items of British and German chemical warfare equipment dating from the Second World War. The first principal item is a British General Service Respirator (GSR) featuring a brown rubber facepiece with circular glass lenses secured by metal rims. The mask bears a rectangular ink stamp reading CONTROL L.R.C. 1941, identifying manufacture by the Leyland & Birmingham Rubber Company, alongside embossed markings 2 and M. It is fitted with canvas head straps and is accompanied by a separate circular filter canister. The second principal item is a German Wehrmacht GM38 gas mask constructed from black rubber. This mask is fitted with an FE41 filter canister, distinguished by its red and green banding. Included with the German mask is a standard-pattern M38 corrugated metal transport canister with a hinged lid stamped with the number 105. The collection is completed by various filter components and associated textile materials.
