Lot 675: A Trio of Vintage Retail Jewellery Ring Display Pads
A framed silk embroidery panel worked on a cream-coloured fabric ground. The central composition depicts two red-crowned cranes (Grus japonensis) perched upon the gnarled branch of a pine tree, set amongst stylized rockwork and floral blossoms. Both the crane and the pine are traditional symbols of longevity and endurance in East Asian culture. The embroidery utilizes multi-coloured silk threads in a variety of stitches to create texture within the feathers, tree bark, and pine needles. The lower-left corner features a calligraphic inscription of four characters: 松鶴延齢 (Songhe Yanling), which translates as May the pine and crane prolong your years, a traditional auspicious wish. The piece is housed in a simple wooden frame and protected by glass.
