Lot 71: A Collection of Four Vintage Esso and Pratts Fuel and Paraffin Cans
This collection comprises four vintage metal containers used for the storage and dispensing of fuel and paraffin, primarily dating from the mid-20th century. The group includes a rectangular two-gallon petrol can featuring an embossed oval logo for Esso on the side, retaining portions of its original green painted finish and a brass screw-top filler cap. A second rectangular two-gallon can is identified by vertical embossed lettering reading Pratts, a brand of the Anglo-American Oil Co.; this item shows remnants of red paint on the handle and retains a brass filler cap. Also present is a rectangular Esso Blue paraffin can, finished in off-white with printed blue and yellow graphics. Completing the set is a smaller, unbranded metal service pouring can equipped with a side-mounted spout and a wire-form carry handle. The items are constructed from soldered and seamed sheet metal.
