Lot 100: A Pair of George V Weighted Sterling Silver Candlesticks
A matched pair of sterling silver weighted candlesticks, often referred to as dwarf candlesticks. Each features a circular stepped and spreading base, a waisted column, and a flared, rimmed sconce. These items are manufactured from silver sheet and are filled with a stabilizing material for weight, with the undersides finished in green felt. Both candlesticks are struck on the side of the base with a full set of English hallmarks: the maker mark GL for George Loveridge and Co, the anchor assay office mark for Birmingham, the lion passant standard mark for .925 sterling silver, and the lowercase date letter p for 1914.
