Lot 52: A Trio of Art Deco Sterling Silver and Tortoiseshell Mounted Dressing Table Items by W. G. Sothers Ltd, Birmingham 1937
A trio of Art Deco vanity items comprising a hand mirror, a handled hairbrush, and a handleless rectangular clothes brush. Each piece features a dark tortoiseshell back panel decorated with inlaid silver pique-work depicting a stylised foliate and urn motif. These panels are set within polished sterling silver frames with handles of characteristic Art Deco geometric form. The silver components bear a full suite of English hallmarks for the Birmingham Assay Office.
Maker’s Mark: W.G.S LTD in a rectangular cartouche for W. G. Sothers Ltd.
Assay Office: Anchor symbol for Birmingham.
Standard Mark: Lion passant for .925 sterling silver.
Date Letter: Uppercase N in a square shield with cut-off corners for 1937.
