Lot 65: Sterling Silver Graduated Curb Link Albert Watch Chain with Engraved Fob Birmingham 1913
An antique sterling silver graduated curb link Albert watch chain accompanied by a decorative fob pendant. The chain consists of links that decrease in size towards the ends, with every individual curb link stamped with a lion passant hallmark. The assembly features a swivel dog clip clasp at one end and a large jump ring at the opposite end. Suspended from a central ring is a shield-shaped fob with ornate scrollwork borders and a central panel hand-engraved with an interlaced script monogram. The reverse of the fob bears a full set of British hallmarks including the lion passant for sterling silver, the anchor for the Birmingham Assay Office, and the date letter o for 1913. It also carries the maker’s mark CES, attributed to the manufacturing jewellers Cornelius Desormeaux Saunders and James Francis Hollings Shepherd.
