Lot 84: Edwardian Sterling Silver Engraved Vesta Case, Birmingham
An Edwardian sterling silver vesta case featuring a lobed rectangular form with rounded corners. The piece is decorated with hand-engraved scrolling foliate motifs to both the front and reverse, with a vacant shield-shaped cartouche to one side intended for a monogram. It is designed with a side-hinged lid and a small suspension loop for attachment to a watch chain. A corrugated striker plate is located at the base. Hallmarks are struck to the inner rim and include the lion passant for sterling silver, the anchor mark for the Birmingham Assay Office, and a date letter. An indistinct maker mark is also present.
