Lot 557: A Set of Four Hand-Painted Ceramic Plates with Mediterranean Scenes
A set of four glazed ceramic plates, each decorated with hand-painted Mediterranean village scenes. The set comprises two pairs defined by their wide, concentric-ringed borders: two in a mauve-pink tone and two in a turquoise-blue. The central wells feature illustrative depictions of traditional white-washed architecture with colourful shutters, stairways, and figures. Each plate is signed in the lower right-hand corner of the scene with the inscription Hand painted G. Pap… followed by further cursive characters. The style and signature are characteristic of contemporary Greek artisan pottery.
