Lot 614: A Collection of Carved Animal Figurines in the Japanese Netsuke Style
A collection of animal figurines in the style of Japanese netsuke and okimono, crafted from various materials including carved wood, a cream-coloured material resembling bone, and patinated metal. The assortment includes a stylised hippopotamus and a dark brown seated animal in carved wood, along with a small wooden mouse featuring a long, tapering tail. Other figures consist of a crouched elephant with detailed skin folds and a long, recumbent animal with dark spots, both carved from a light-coloured material. A miniature four-legged animal in green-patinated metal is also present. These items follow the traditional form of Japanese toggles with rounded contours and detailed surface carving. No visible signatures or maker’s marks are present on the pieces.
