Lot 647: A Collection of Five Assorted Ethnographic and Decorative Hand Fans
This collection consists of five assorted hand fans featuring various materials and regional construction styles. The first is a circular fixed fan crafted from woven natural fibres, featuring a central geometric diamond pattern rendered in dyed purple and natural-coloured tones, mounted on a straight wooden handle in an African ethnographic style. The second is a large, broad fan constructed from woven strips of light-coloured palm leaf, resembling the form of a Philippine Anahaw fan, with an integrated woven handle and an adhesive label marked 1080. The third item is a Japanese Uchiwa-style fan with a paper leaf featuring a multicoloured graphic print in red, black, green, and white, set into a white plastic frame. The fourth is a feather fan composed of dark brown plumage, possibly ostrich or emu, attached to a turned wooden handle and stored in a plastic sleeve. The final item is a decorative fixed fan with a green-painted leaf featuring elaborate pierced openwork and filigree patterns, fitted to a dark-toned handle and bearing a previous sale lot tag numbered 647.
