Lot 657: A Trio of Decorative Carved Stone Items
This lot comprises three decorative items crafted from various polished stones. It includes two stylised hippopotamus figurines, both depicted in recumbent poses. One figurine is carved from a light mottled green stone, while the other is a darker green and black mottled stone, characteristic of serpentine or soapstone. The collection further includes a small turned pedestal vase with a flared rim and circular base, fashioned from a marbled reddish-brown stone, possibly marble or alabaster. The animal figurines are stylistically consistent with Shona stone carvings. No maker marks or signatures are present on the bodies of the objects.
