Lot 663: Two Smiths Oak-Cased Synchronous Electric Mantel Clocks
Two mid-20th-century English electric mantel clocks manufactured by Smiths. The first clock features a round silvered dial with Arabic numerals, enclosed within a chrome-plated bezel and protected by a glass lens. The dial includes a small circular aperture at the 12 o’clock position showing a numbered disc. This unit is housed in a dark-finished oak case with a stepped, rectangular profile. The Bakelite rear housing is marked with the manufacturer’s details: SMITHS ENGLISH CLOCKS LTD, SYNCHRONOUS ELECTRIC CLOCK, MADE IN LONDON, along with technical specifications for 200/250 V and 50~. The second clock is designed in an asymmetrical Art Deco style with a prominent wood grain oak case. It features a square cream-coloured dial with Art Deco-style Arabic numerals, set within a chrome-plated rectangular surround. The dial is marked SMITH SECTRIC and MADE IN ENGLAND. The reverse housing features the SECTRIC logo and is marked 200/250V, 50~, and MADE IN ENGLAND.
