Lot 744: An Assortment of Novelty and Decorative Ceramic Teapots and Stoneware
A large collection of novelty and decorative ceramic teapots together with stoneware items, presented in three containers. The collection includes a wide variety of architectural forms such as Big Ben, the Tower of London with a Union Jack flag, ‘The George and Dragon’ pub, and several thatched cottages. Figural examples include a sheep with a ‘TEA FOR EWE’ rosette, a Dalmatian on a cushion, an elephant, and teapots with relief-moulded teddy bears. Novelty items include a vintage red car, a picnic basket with fruit, and a kitchen range. Also included are various floral transfer-printed teapots and a large tan-glazed stoneware storage jar. The items are primarily glazed earthenware with high-relief moulding and hand-painted or transfer-printed decoration. One architectural piece retains a gold label for ‘Leonardo’, stating it is for decorative purposes and not to be used as a teapot.
