Lot 89: Two Vintage Shell 2-Gallon Petrol Cans
A pair of vintage 2-gallon fuel cans produced for Shell, dating from the early to mid-20th century. The first container is a Shell Aviation Spirit can, finished in blue paint and featuring a distinctive red winged-shell graphic alongside red block lettering. The top of the can is embossed with 2 GAL and is fitted with a brass screw cap embossed with the letters S, H, E, L, L. The second container is a Shell petrol can finished in black paint, featuring an embossed shell logo on the side with cream-coloured highlights and a matching embossed logo on the top surface. This can is also fitted with a brass screw cap embossed with the brand name. Both items are constructed from steel or tinplate and retain their original integrated wire carry handles.
