Lot 113: Octagonal Blue and White Transfer-Printed Earthenware Plate
An octagonal earthenware plate featuring a blue transfer-printed design. The central scene depicts a romantic pastoral subject with a couple seated on a bench beneath a large tree, set within a landscape of stylized foliage and trees. The scene is framed by a wide border of scrolling foliate motifs and flowers, with an internal geometric chain-link border. The reverse of the plate bears an underglaze blue backstamp featuring the word GEORGIAN arched over a central crown, with the text MADE IN ENGLAND and ALL BRITISH LABOUR below. This specific mark is associated with Staffordshire potteries such as George Jones and Sons during the early 20th century.
