Lot 156: Two Vintage 2-Gallon Metal Petrol Cans
A pair of vintage 2-gallon metal spirit cans, typical of early-to-mid 20th-century British automobilia. The first item is a Shell brand petrol can, constructed from tin-plated steel. It features a fixed metal strap handle and a threaded collar. The top shoulder is embossed with the words PETROL and SHELL. The second item is a fuel or oil can of similar rectangular form and construction. It retains a brass screw-top cap and is embossed with the word LIGHT on the top shoulder, likely indicating the grade of the spirit or oil originally contained within. These cans were standard equipment for motorists before the widespread adoption of modern petrol pumps and are now frequently collected for garage display or restoration.
