Lot 462: A German Bavarian Style Lidded Ceramic Beer Stein with Alpine Relief Decoration
A traditional lidded ceramic beer stein featuring polychrome relief decoration set against a cobalt blue ground. The decorative scheme depicts an Alpine scene with a prominent central edelweiss flower, a timber-framed chalet, and a church with a traditional onion dome. A figure in traditional dress is depicted to the side. The vessel incorporates a rustic branch-moulded handle and raised rope-twist borders at the rim and base. It is fitted with a domed pewter lid featuring an embossed floral pattern and a hinged thumb-lift. The interior is finished with a cream-coloured glaze. No maker’s marks are visible on the exterior.
