Lot 5: Two Traditional Hand Tools Comprising a Pickaxe and Long-Handled Edging Shears
This lot consists of two traditional hand tools of a type common to British ground-working and gardening. The first item is a double-pointed pickaxe featuring a forged steel head and a straight-grained wooden handle. The metal head exhibits significant surface oxidation and pitting. The handle appears to be a later replacement and retains a modern barcode sticker along with an inventory label numbered 005. The second item is a pair of long-handled garden edging shears. These feature steel blades and shanks fitted with turned wooden handles. The metal components show heavy surface rust, and the central pivot bolt is present. The wooden handles exhibit age-related wear and staining. No maker’s marks are visible on either tool.
