Lot 528: Limoges Cobalt Blue and Gilded Porcelain Lidded Trinket Box
A circular porcelain lidded trinket box manufactured in Limoges, France. The exterior and interior are finished in a deep cobalt blue glaze, often referred to as Bleu de Four. The lid is decorated with a central gold transfer-printed Fête Galante scene depicting a courting couple in 18th-century period costume, enclosed within a floral and foliate wreath. The name Limoges is integrated into the scene in script at the bottom. The rim of the lid is finished with a thin gilded band. The underside of the base bears two distinct factory marks: a green backstamp consisting of the word Limoges flanked by two stars with France below, and a red script mark for Limoges France above the alphanumeric code 830 G.
