Lot 552: A Chinese Silk Embroidered Panel Depicting Cranes and Pine
A horizontal silk embroidery panel depicting a traditional motif of longevity featuring red-crowned cranes and a pine tree. The composition illustrates two cranes, one perched within the branches and one standing, set against a gnarled pine tree and flowering plants, possibly peonies. The work is hand-embroidered in polychrome silk threads on a cream-coloured silk ground, utilizing various needlework techniques including satin and long-and-short stitches to create texture in the feathers and foliage. To the lower left, there is a four-character embroidered inscription in black thread reading 松 鶴 延 年 (Song He Yan Nian), a traditional wish for a long life. The panel is presented in a wooden frame under glass.
