Lot 706: A Pair of Victorian William and Mary Revival Carved Hardwood Side Chairs
A pair of Victorian or early 20th-century side chairs in the William and Mary revival style. Each chair is constructed from dark-stained hardwood and features a high back with an arched and scrolled crest rail above a central pierced splat with foliate and scroll-work carving. The fixed, over-stuffed seats are upholstered in a floral tapestry-style fabric featuring red, pink, and ochre floral motifs on a cream ground. The chairs are raised on ring and baluster-turned front legs terminating in small casters, with square-section raked rear legs. A small white adhesive tag with the hand-written number 18 is present on the reverse of one chair.
