Lot 736: Air Ministry Oak Dressing Chest
An Air Ministry mid-twentieth-century oak dressing chest. The unit comprises a rectangular chest base with a configuration of two short drawers over two full-width long drawers. Each drawer is fitted with two original turned circular wooden pull knobs. Mounted to the rear top is a rectangular mirror held between two square-section upright supports with metal pivoting hardware, allowing for tilt adjustment. The chest is raised on short, square-tapering legs that are continuous with the side frames. Constructed with oak solids and veneers, the drawers feature reddish-brown mahogany or sapele secondary wood linings and machine-cut dovetail joints. The interior bottom of one drawer is stamped with a dark graphic mark depicting a stylised eight-pointed star motif.
