Lot 899: An Edwardian Style Hardwood Fireplace Mantel and Terrazzo Insert
An Edwardian-style fireplace set comprising a dark-stained hardwood mantel and a corresponding terrazzo insert. The mantel features a flat overhanging shelf above pilaster-style legs. Each leg is ornamented with a centrally placed, carved oval rosette depicting a stylized chrysanthemum or sunflower motif within a beaded border. The legs are further detailed with three vertical fluted grooves above and below the rosettes. The timber appears to be mahogany or oak with a dark-stained finish. The insert is a single-piece slab of terrazzo composite stone, consisting of a neutral beige matrix with varied stone inclusions in shades of cream, grey, and ochre. The slab has a central rectangular opening for a fire grate. Two temporary white adhesive paper labels are present on the mantel shelf and left leg.
