Lot 1067: An Edwardian Oak Commode Armchair with Tartan Upholstery
An early 20th-century disguised commode armchair constructed from dark-stained oak. The chair is designed to function as an inconspicuous piece of furniture, appearing as a standard armchair when the seat is closed. It features a high back and flat, horizontal armrests above square-section legs with simple turned detailing. The backrest and the removable seat cushion are upholstered in a heavy-weave tartan fabric featuring a pattern of green, red, and cream. Beneath the seat cushion is a black-finished wooden platform with a central circular aperture housing a removable white plastic commode pan. Small white adhesive inventory labels with the hand-written number 1007 are attached to the arms and the rear frame.
