Lot 557: A Pair of Carved Hardwood Ethnographic Figures with Natural Hair and Raffia Loincloths
This pair of hand-carved hardwood figures is depicted in a squatting position with elongated limbs and hands raised towards the face. Each figure is carved from a dense, dark-stained timber with a semi-lustrous finish. The figures feature stylised facial features, including large rounded eyes and broad noses. A distinctive feature of each piece is the application of natural hair to the crown of the head and the presence of a natural plant fibre loincloth wrapped around the waist. One figure retains a small white adhesive label with the handwritten number 5766. A shelf label for Lot 557 from SCP Auctions South West is also present.
Height: 25cm – 35cm (estimated).
