Lot 614: A Trio of Ceramic Items Including German Stoneware and Studio Pottery
This lot consists of three ceramic items, including two pieces of traditional German stoneware and a piece of studio pottery. The first item is a German salt-glazed stoneware jug of tall, slender cylindrical form with a narrow neck, flared rim, and loop handle, featuring a matching rounded stopper. The grey stoneware body is decorated with hand-painted cobalt blue slip-trailed scroll and floral motifs, and the base rim is stamped with the mark Handarbeit. The second item is a tapered German beer stein with a hinged pewter lid and a rustic branch-form handle. The exterior displays high-relief moulded and hand-painted scenes, including a large edelweiss flower, a mountain chalet, and tavern figures in traditional Alpine dress against a navy blue background. The base is impressed with the mark MADE IN WESTERN GERMANY and the numeral 7. The third item is a studio pottery bowl with a wide rim finished in a mottled blue glaze. The central unglazed tan clay well features an incised sand dollar motif highlighted with dark pigment. The unglazed base bears a circular potter’s mark containing a stylized diagonal line above a rectangular box with three bars, alongside the incised number 75.
