Lot 690: A Burleigh Ware Budgerigar Figural Jug
A Burleigh Ware earthenware jug produced by Burgess and Leigh Ltd of Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent. The body is relief-moulded with a textured tree bark design and features two budgerigars. One bird is depicted on the side of the vessel, while the second bird is sculpted to form the handle. The piece is finished in a pale celadon-green glaze with the birds hand-painted in shades of blue and yellow with black feather detailing and orange highlights to the beaks and feet. The base bears the circular printed Burleigh Ware mark in brown ink, featuring a beehive and the text B and L Ltd, Made in England. There is also a handwritten pattern or shape number 6021 in black ink.
