Lot 723: A Collection of Vintage Table Tennis Memorabilia, Girl Guiding Ephemera, and Personal Accessories
An assortment of mid-20th-century sporting memorabilia and personal ephemera, primarily related to English table tennis and the Girl Guides Association. The collection includes several embroidered cloth patches: an English Table Tennis Association (ETTA) National Umpire badge featuring three lions rampant, an English Table Tennis Association Club Coach badge, a Hampshire TTA badge with a central rose motif, a circular Table Tennis Association badge with a stag’s head, a blue circular umpire badge partially inscribed 34TH W, and a green shield-shaped club badge.
Ephemera includes a Girl Guides Association Proficiency Badge Certificate for First Aid, issued to Diane Hillier of the Ealing District and dated 1954. Accompanying this is a chrome-finished metal whistle on a white braided cord lanyard.
Writing and personal items consist of a cased set of two gold-toned pens with engine-turned barrels, housed in a blue presentation box with a cream satin and velvet lining, including one loose blue ink cartridge. A cream-coloured jewellery box contains a pair of rectangular gold and brown striped cufflinks, a crescent-shaped abalone shell brooch, and various pin badges. A separate small brown leatherette case contains cufflinks, including a pair with enamel crests and a paper label reading HEREFORDSHIRE. The lot also includes an oval cream-coloured celluloid or plastic vanity tool handle.
