Lot 918: An Edwardian Stained Hardwood Commode Armchair
An Edwardian period commode armchair constructed from dark-stained hardwood. The chair features a curved, padded backrest and a square seat, both upholstered in a green fabric with a repeating scrolling foliate motif and secured with brass-headed upholstery tacks. The upholstered seat is designed to lift, revealing a secondary internal wooden lid with a recessed handle. This lid hinges back to reveal a wooden deck with a circular aperture intended to hold a ceramic chamber pot. The frame is raised on simple square legs and features flat, straight armrests. A small white adhesive label with the handwritten characters 9, 1, 8 is present on the upper surface of the right arm.
