Lot 947: An English Painted Hoop-Back Windsor Side Chair
An English country hoop-back Windsor side chair, constructed from mixed woods. The design features a bentwood hoop back supporting seven vertical spindles socketed into the seat. The thick, saddle-shaped seat, likely of elm, is supported by four turned, splayed legs connected by a simple H-stretcher. The legs are through-tenoned into the base, which is characteristic of traditional Windsor construction. The chair retains remnants of an old grey or greenish paint finish over a dark wood base. Two small white adhesive auction lot labels are present on the seat and back rail, both transcribed as 947. No manufacturer marks, stamps, or signatures are visible.
