Lot 1040: A Set of Victorian Cast Iron and Ceramic Counter Balance Scales
This set of counter balance scales is constructed with a heavy cast iron frame and a central beam mechanism. The scales are equipped with a circular, deep-welled metal pan finished in green paint to one side, and a rectangular white glazed ceramic platform to the other. The ceramic platform is typical of late 19th and early 20th-century manufacture, often referred to as ironstone. The design is utilitarian, intended for commercial or domestic use. There is a white adhesive lot sticker numbered 1040 on the ceramic platform. No manufacturer’s stamps or branding are visible on the metal or ceramic parts.
