Lot 784: A Large Hand-Carved and Painted Wood Folk Art Figure of Father Christmas
A large-scale rustic folk art wood carving of Father Christmas, depicted in traditional red and white attire. The figure is carved in a naive, hand-finished style from a solid section of timber and stands on an integrated, rough-hewn circular base. The facial features, including a long grey beard and wide eyes, and the details of his robes are picked out in paint. The figure holds a separate wooden staff in his right hand and a carved lantern in his left. A small white adhesive lot tag is attached to the figure’s right shoulder which reads – 784. No signatures, maker’s marks, or inscriptions are present.
