Lot 861: Late Victorian Oak Twin-Pedestal Desk
A late Victorian or Edwardian twin-pedestal desk constructed from solid oak and oak veneers. The rectangular top features a moulded edge surrounding a large recessed central panel, which is currently vacant of its original leather or baize writing surface, revealing the secondary timber base. The frieze is fitted with three drawers, each featuring finger-pull notches to the lower edge and brass keyhole escutcheons. Below, each pedestal contains a single panelled cupboard door opening to a storage interior. The drawer interiors have been later lined with decorative paper featuring a floral Lily of the Valley and butterfly motif. The desk is finished to all sides, suggesting it was intended for use in a commercial office or library environment. No maker’s marks or stamps are present.
